Best Instagram Wedding Photography 5th Dec 2016

Instagram is great for showing your best wedding photography - it's entirely image led and is really convenient for getting a quick picture fix on your phone during the day. I try to post at least once a day, partly from my back catalog of wedding photography, but also from current edits. Changing my Instagram account to a business one now means that I can instantly see which pictures are most popular amongst my followers. It's really interesting, as a photographer, because it's often the least likely (in my mind) which generate the most likes. Here's my Instagram account.

So, here's the top 5 Instagram wedding photos from last week.

This is Jenny, on the famous staircase at the fabulous St Pancras Renaissance Hotel in London. You may remember this as the backdrop to the Spice Girls 'Wannabe' video? It was taken just before Jenny left to marry Paul at Islington Town Hall, and after we'd taken a couple of quick group pictures with her Dad and sister. It's a breathtaking staircase, and while most of my photography is documentary, it's important to take these kind of surroundings into consideration in the photography. If you're interested, here's a little more from their London wedding

Next is Rhea getting ready at the Alpaga hotel in Megeve, France. I wanted to try and get a sense of where we were - in the heart of the French Alps. But it was a pretty grey day and visibility was poor. There were no classic snow topped mountains in view, but by using the reflection on the glass of her room, I was able to show a little of the background at the same time as the preparations. Here's some more destination wedding photography.

Next is Kim and Joseph sheltering from the rain as they leave the wedding ceremony at The Old Mill in Aldermaston. It was a day of mixed weather with gorgeous strong sunlight and a couple of heavy downpours. Of course there's nothing you can do about the weather on your wedding day, and it doesn't affect the way I photograph a wedding too much - it's just another characteristic of the day that needs to be seen in the pictures!

I love backlight during the brides preparations, especially with a veil on the wedding dress. Of course you really need a dark background to make the most of the light, and I would mostly present an image like this in black and white. This shot of Jade was taken at Rivervale Barn where there's great window light from both sides of the room, making this kind of shot possible.

Lastly, a great reaction picture from Emma and Steve's wedding in Essex earlier in the Summer. It's a great moment, the kind of bread and butter image that the best documentary wedding photographers are always able to find, at every wedding. It's just a case of keeping aware of whats going on around you. And following the loudest laugh!
